Privacy Policy

Bad Economy ("we", "us") makes a mobile app that helps you discover job listings from company career pages. This policy explains what we collect, why, how to get it, and how to delete it. We believe in collecting as little data as possible. If it isn't on this page, we don't have it.

1. What we collect

Account data (only if you create an account)

• Your email address, from Apple Sign In, Google Sign In, or the magic-link email you enter.
• A stable user ID from the provider (Apple user id or Google subject id). We do not receive your Apple or Google password.

App usage data

• Swipes. Which jobs you swipe right (save) or left (skip), and the timestamp. We store these so your deck doesn't show you the same job twice and so your saved list syncs across devices.
• Preferences. Target roles, salary floor, location preference, remote preference — whatever you enter during onboarding.
• Push notification token (only if you opt in), so we can tell your device when a fresh job matches your preferences.

Anonymous browsing

You can open the app and swipe without signing in. In that mode, your swipe history is stored only on your device (in local storage). Nothing is sent to our servers until you create an account. When you create an account, we do not backfill your anonymous history to the server.

What we do not collect

• We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, or microphone.
• We do not run third-party analytics, ad SDKs, or trackers inside the app.
• We do not buy or sell data to anyone.
• We do not profile you for advertising.

2. How we use it

• To show you a job feed and keep your saved list synced.
• To personalize which jobs you see based on preferences you explicitly set.
• To send push notifications about new jobs — only if you opt in.
• To operate the service, debug problems, and prevent abuse.

We do not use your data for advertising, ranking by engagement, or reselling.

3. Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to operate the app. They only see the data required to do their job:

• Supabase (hosted Postgres, auth, edge functions) — our backend. Stores everything in §1 above. See supabase.com/privacy.
• Apple — if you use Sign in with Apple. See apple.com/legal/privacy.
• Google — if you use Sign in with Google. See policies.google.com/privacy.
• Expo / Cloudflare — hosting and push infrastructure.

We never sell your personal information. We never share it with advertisers or data brokers. We will disclose data only if legally compelled by a valid court order, and will narrowly comply and notify you when allowed by law.

4. Data retention

We keep your account data until you delete your account. Swipe history and saves are deleted with your account. Server logs (required for troubleshooting) are retained no longer than 30 days.

5. Your rights

Regardless of where you live, you can:

• Access your data — email us and we'll send you an export.
• Correct your preferences — change them in the app's Profile tab.
• Delete your account and all associated data — tap Profile → Delete Account inside the app. Deletion is permanent and cascades to swipes, saves, and preferences.
• Export your data — email us at the contact below.

If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the GDPR, including the right to object or lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. If you are in California, you have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising CCPA rights. Bad Economy does not sell personal information as defined by the CCPA.

6. Children

Bad Economy is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 in the EEA), and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.

7. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Row-Level Security on our database ensures one user cannot read or modify another user's data. We review access to the backend regularly. No system is perfect — if you notice a vulnerability, please responsibly disclose it to us at the contact below.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be announced in the app and via email to account holders at least 14 days before taking effect. The effective date at the top of this page is always current.
